Cruzin' through Labor Day Weekend

Once again the summer is over. {Chris}

Really? No more white shoes then. {Sharla}

Yeah. {Chris}

No way. It still feels like Spring outside! {Sharla}

Yeah, I know. Can you believe it? {Chris}

What are we to do? Keep cruisin' I guess. This weekend flew by as have the previous ones, BUT Sharla and I did quite a bit. We got some shopping done on Saturday before the big SC football game (which turned out to be amazing.) The boys of Southern Cal proved they've been working extremely hard over the summer. They ended up winning 52-7 over Virginia in the humid South.

Don't worry, even though we are in Stanford territory, we did proudly represent SC all day with our shirts and flags:) {Sharla}

Fight on!!! Also, our weekend included our weekly long run, pool time, movie time, and a trip to Santa Cruz. {Chris}

Not to mention the football game Thursday night.  We kicked off college football season by going to the Stanford vs. Oregon State game with some friends.  The weather was perfect, the stadium was really nice, and the game was lots of fun to watch. It's super weird that Stanford only has 4 home games this season though, so we had to make the most of the opportunity. {Sharla}

Back to the weekend, where shall we start?..... How about the long run? We hit up the Sawyer Camp Trail which is a local's favorite because of it's scenery, paved path, water fountains, and my favorite, half mile markers. The trail runs along the edge of the Crystal Springs Reservoir and runs 6 miles in one direction. Deer are no stranger to the area and you can always see them sipping on the banks of the reservoir. {Chris}

During this run, we saw about 4 deer on small islands off the shore. It was crazy. So, I guess deer can swim?! {Sharla}

Even though we've been going to the same trail for awhile, this weekend I finally broke through the 5 mile marker and ran the entire trail. The unfortunate part is that it's up hill for 3/4 of the time from mile 5 to 6. The most extraordinary factor about that part of the trail is that it crosses the San Andreas Fault line. Yes... I said the San Andreas Fault!!! And of course my mind starts envisioning the land splitting in two and seeing the upper reservoir flooding the rest of the trail behind me. You know what though? It didn't. As for the rest of my run, my legs felt great and finished the final 6 miles in a comfortable 38:30. {Chris}

A typical view down the Sawyer Camp Trail.

A plaque describing the San Andreas Fault and how it
runs down the middle of the upper reservoir. Cool!

During our extra day, we decided to wait on going to Monterrey and Carmel and to make a shorter trip to Santa Cruz. It was packed with people, but it was fun to go exploring in an unfamiliar town. Sharla described the beach area as, "It reminds of that crazy game called Roller coaster Tycoon." And it was!!! You could hear all of the carnival rides going, people playing games, kids screaming as they went around on the roller coaster. It was a little much, but fun to check out. {Chris}

We didn't stay too long since we are not much for burning in the sun, but it's definitely a place we would go again (not on a holiday). Okay, I guess that's all for now. Happy Labor Day everyone:)  {Sharla}
