Livestrong Challenge 5K

No, we are not going to be on the cover of a magazine.  This picture is just a momento from our most recent race - The Livestrong Challenge 5K.  Chris and I love running races, and we race frequently because it keep us motivated and in shape.  Plus, Chris kicks butt in every race we run! {Sharla}

  Race expos are probably the best part of the whole event, and this one proved to be especially exciting.  Ever heard of Chris Carmichael? We hadn't either (ha), but he turns out to be Lance Armstrong's cycling coach. SWEET!!! At the expo, we ended up meeting him and getting a free copy of his book. EVEN SWEETER!!! We also walked away from the expo with the free t-shirt (expected) and a free duffel bag (unexpected... we won it at the Nissan tent). {Chris}

The next day we drove back down to San Jose for the race and we got there in plenty of time. We did our typical race day warm up, checked our bag, hit the Port-o-potties, and got in line for the race. {Chris}

Yeah, typical race day excitement. Until right before the race began.  One minute the announcer was telling all the bikers and runners to line up, and the next thing we know Lance Armstrong himself is giving us a pump up speech! Even though the event was Livestrong, we didn't actually think he would be there.  After his speech, Lance climbed off the stage and jumped on his bike to join all the others in the 100 mile ride. Then, as the bike race was starting, and Chris and I were working our way to the front of the race pack, we saw a cute blond girl come bouncing up to the start line. People started watching her and taking pictures with her, which we thought was pretty weird until we realized it was Kate Hudson!!!  {Sharla}

WAIT WHAT did she say? Yeah. Lance Armstrong and Kate Hudson.  Kate ran in the 5k, which was pretty crazy. {Chris}

Yeah, so it was an exciting start to the race! The end of the race was the really exciting part though. {Sharla}

We both broke our personal 5k records (PR) by 40 seconds. Thank you sea level. Sharla finished 4th in women overall and I ended up winning the race. CRAZY. I don't know yet if I won anything, but I hope a prize comes in the mail.
Sharla - 23:01 - 7:25 min/mile
Chris - 17:02 - 5:29 min/mile

Anyway, we had a great time all weekend, and we got to support a great cause.
Live every day to the fullest. . .Livestrong:)
